Textbook Count 2
August 12, 2004—The Department of Education is implementing the Textbook Count 2 project, which aims to ensure the delivery of 15.7 million textbooks and teachers manual to 7,499 locations (2,138 high schools and 5,361 districts). Kids can help prevent corruption
August 3, 2004—The article “Even kids can stop corruption in infrastructure” highlights the aptitude of ordinary citizens, including children, in preventing corruption. Armed with a simple checklist, kids probed on the quality of a road project, noting the number of potholes, evenness of the surface, the presence of side drains, and others. Children simply recorded their observations and presented it to the municipal commissioner.
The Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) in India ran the road research as part of its civic awareness summer camps held in April-May 2000. Read more

Civil society organizations are vital components in building consensus against corruption. There are numerous active groups, albeit not well known, which adamantly campaign for good governance. The project believes that without the help of private citizens, no reforms can be sustained.
There are anti-corruption organizations accredited by the Ombudsman known as Corruption Prevention Units (CPUs). But there are also other organizations not affiliated with the office of the Ombudsman which are active in the fight against corruption. |
